Using Your Own Vehicle
Firstly, yes, you may use your own vehicle on your driving test, however:
You must provide an appropriately licensed vehicle, displaying ‘L' plates. The vehicle must be suitable for the purposes of the test category you are taking.
The vehicle should be fully covered by insurance for the purposes of the practical test. It is advisable to check with your insurance company. To ensure you have the required cover. A hired car is unlikely to be insured for the driving test.
For car & trailer – seat belts and head restraints must be fitted to both front seats. Trailer must be a box trailer with an unladen weight of over 1000kg. The front passenger seat must provide all-round vision for the examiner.
For lorry, tractor or car & trailer tests – a suitable ‘unladen' vehicle must be used. The tractor unit of an articulated vehicle is not a suitable vehicle for a category-C driving test.
An Audible warning device or warning light must operate when the trailer is connected and the indictors are in operation.
For lorry (and lorry with trailer) or car & trailer tests – from 1 April 2006 vehicles will need to be fitted with additional wide angled outside nearside and offside mirrors for use by the driving examiner during the test. From the same date, seatbelts for the examiner and any supervising officer will also need to be fitted to any vehicles used for test.
